Problem with restarting numbered lists (2000)

We have a template with a customised numbered list style. In our documents, every numbered list we create continues from previous. This has only started happening recently, and we cant figure out what's going on as you cannot set numbering to "restart numbering" from within the style itself...

    Any ideas?

Word's automatic numbering is broken. It can still be used, but it won't work the way it ought to.

The following will help you tame it.

This question has come up here before.

Doing a seach on "number" AND "restart" turns up lots of previous posts including this macro solution posted by Andrew Lockton.
