    *.wks (Office 2000 SR-1)

I have a group of files that I need to open and hopefully convert to Office 2000 formats. They were created with MS Works and their extensions are *.wks. I thought I could open them with Excel or Word. Excel won

Run your Office setup > Add/remove features.
I'm fairly certain it is included in the converter options.

    Leif,

A converter for MS Works 4.0 was there and after running Add/Remove it said it was successfully installed. Unless I am missing a step somewhere it still does not show up as a supported file format when I do a file open. Shouldn

Well, I never did get the converter to work but I was able to view and save the MS Works files using one of Woody's highly recommended utilities. If there is any interest it was FmView that saved the day for me. It has a strange quirk when saving a viewed file to an Excel format but that was easily ignored since I was able to read and retrieve the data I needed.

I still don't know why the converter I installed from the XP CD didn't work. It didn't even show up in the "Files Of Type" dialog box. However, since I retrieved the data it is no longer an issue.
