    Bookmarks window (W97, WinNT4)

Does anyone by any chance know of a way to keep the bookmark window open?

I am going to do some work on a huge document that has hundreds of bookmarks in it, all of which need changing, and as it is, each time I delete one and replace it with the newly named one, the window closes and I have to open it again - which is considerably increasing the time this takes!

    Any help would be appreciated!

I don't think you can keep it open.

The default keyboard shortcut for the bookmark window is Ctrl+Shift+F5; if you don't like that, you can assign a different shortcut.

You can also create a toolbar button that opens the bookmark window.

If the document is really huge, it might be worth wile investing a bit of time in writing a macro that loops through the bookmarks and gives you the opportunity to "rename" it by creating a new one and deleting the old one.

I don't recall how it is in Word 97, but in Word 2002, the bookmark dialog is not modeless, so it does no good to keep it open. Likely also true in Word 97 and Word 2000.

Thanks, Hans, Howard. Looks like I'll just have to put up with it, then! <img src=/S/sigh.gif border=0 alt=sigh width=15 height=15>
