Sound volume on Modem - Win 95 OSR 2

The modem in the control panel has the sound volume set to zero. Yet when I log on to the 'Net, the modem sends out the usual sounds. As I log in late at night, upstairs, I am not Mr Popularity. Where else should I look on how to reset the sound volume on the modem. BTW, the sound comes fm the modem card itself, not the speakers.

Do you have the ability to send a control string to the modem in any of the setups? If so, you want to add:
    M0
    (That's M and zero)

On the Desktop, right click on My Computer, select Properties, then Hardware. Double-click on the entry for your modem and you should see an option for adjusting your modem volume. Additionally, in your Control Panel, you may have a Modem icon that might let you adjust this setting.

If all else fails, try this! Open the bonnet (or lift the hood), find the modem card and then its speaker (usually a small, round, black cylinder with a hole in the top). Now the techie bit. Install a small lump of Blutac, Plasticine or similar on top of the speaker to cover the hole. This can sometimes help to muffle the sound when the modem is operating. It is also cheap and quick. HTH.

Each dial up icon has the volume setting listed for THAT dial up. So one must change the volume setting for EACH icon shown in the dial up group.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.
