Hi

I have a main form and subform. The subform contains a lot of fields (all from one table) and for ease of use/formatting I was thinking of using a tab control to split the subform out. However, I'm not sure whether this is possible (the only way I can think of is to split the table into two and link them together, but this has issues as well). Any ideas?

Also, I'm not sure whether using a tab control is the best way to go about it. So if anyone else has a better way of doing it , please advise.

You need to clarify the question a bit. Are you asking about putting the subform on a tab control? That's certainly a possibility. However, I don't understand why you would want a tab control to display "a lot of fields." You usually use one to display different kinds of information so that the user can jump back and forth by clicking on the tabs. There are even ways to display the *same* subform in portions using a tab control, but more information is needed.

How many fields is "a lot"? Is the table design normalized or is this a flat table?

Thanks for the reply. Yes I was talking about putting the subform on a tab control (somehow split the subform into 2 with part a on one tab control and part b on the other tab control). There are 8 fields (some being reasonably long to display info) in the subform and it is a normalized table.

Eight fields isn't really a lot. Is this a continuous subform? If you're trying to split the record itself across two tab pages, I wouldn't recommend it. You can always put the controls in two rows for each record is it's too wide otherwise.

And you can implement the zoom feature for large fields so that the user can double-click (for example) the field to zoom it rather than trying to display everything in the form itself.

If you put the tab control on the main form, you'd have to create a separate subform for each tab page. All subforms can have the same table as record source.

It is probably a better idea to put the tab control on the subform. Then you can distribute the fields over the tab pages any way you like. There is no need to split the table.

Hi Gary,
I don't know if Charlotte use the same technique, but that's what I use in an application to 'zoom'.

In this case I only use the height, but you could increase the width of the textbox also.
Don't forget that the measurements of a textbox in VBA is twips what's equal to 1/1440 inch.

I use a different technique from Francois because I don't want to temporarily modify the size of the control, I just want to zoom the whole thing. Shift+F2 will do it from the keyboard and from the dbl-click event in code, you can use this:

DoCmd.RunCommand acCmdZoomBox

Of course, if you're in VB, you don't have the DoCmd object, but in Access you do.
