RWOP queries (97)

I have just test the following:
Table : no permission set for the users.
Query : Set permissions Read Design, Read, Update, Insert, Delete and Run with owners permission.
Form : Set permission Open/Run.
The query is a simple select query.
This seems to work on my Access 97 SR2

One problem I have is that when the form loads I take the user to the end of the records + 1 so the form is blank and they can add the data. I get a error saying 'Can't Go to specific record". If I add insert Permissions to the table it works fine. Another problem is when I try to update data it says "Record is not updatable". What am I doing wrong?

I'd guess that the two issues are the same problem; you can't go to end+1, i.e. add a new record, if you don't have permissions set up correctly.

Have you changed your forms so that they use the RWOP query rather than the underlying table?

Are the RWOP queries owned by someone that has permission to edit the underlying table (typically the database designer, but it doesn't have to be the designer as long as the owner has appropriate permissions)?

Have you checked to make sure that the Run Permissions in your queries are set to Owner's rather than User's?

I have done everything that you asked and they were all ok. I am the owner of the query(Admin), Run Permissions set to owner and the forms are using the queries!

Well, maybe someone else has other suggestions. I can't think of anything else you might be missing. RWOP queries work for me in both A97 and A2000.

An unrelated point - if you are using the builtin "Admin" user as a privileged user in a secure database, you have a major hole in your security.

Will you put DoCmd.GoToRecord , , acNewRec in your form load event. I want to see if you get any errors?

I am trying to use "Run with Owner Permission" Queries to update and add data to forms. I have set up a "Select Query" with the fields that I want to update/add to the table. I then set read, update, insert and delete permissions on the query and only read on the table. I then set the Run Permission to owner. This not not work. Do i need to have an action query instead of the select? if so which one(Append, update)?

I have try the DoCmd.GoToRecord , , acNewRec and have no errors.
Are you sure the users are using the right system.mdw file?
How are the users starting the mdb ?

they access that database via a shortcut that uses the workgroup file!
