I went to insert a column in a table and Word committed a page fault (Bad Word! Now clean that mess up). Windows closed Word, and when I opened it up, both my document and are now "locked for editing" because I'm using them as another user. Is there any way to clear whatever tag it is that says a file is in use, or do I have to tear the machine down bolt by bolt and rebuild it from the ground up?

    Close Word.

Do a search on your hard disk for:

This should turn up ~$ and ~$fname.doc.

Delete them. (Delete any you find) Restart Word.

Thesea are "owner files" that are created when you open a template or a document and are often left behind when there is a crash.
