Cannot Show or Hide Detail for this Selection (XL2000)

We have been using XL97 in our office, and, recently, making great use out of Pivottables on a daily basis. The normal sheet has 5 data fields which are summarized (and the addition of a calculated field). Today, our first person was converted over to Excel 2000, and came to me with a complaint within minutes.

When he tried to drill down on a total area to see the underlying data, he received the following error message. I spent some time identifying the problem, and then verified it on the Microsoft KnowledgeBase (Q288647). To quote the article:

    "CAUSE
This error message occurs when the following conditions are true:

Your PivotTable contains more than one data field.

    -and-

You double-click a total field for one of the data fields. "

The suggested workaround from the same article states:

"To work around this problem, remove all data fields except one. To do this, follow these steps:

In the PivotTable, click the arrow next to Data to display the list of data fields.

Click to clear all but one of the check boxes for the data fields listed.

    Click OK . "

Has anyone any ideas of how to more effectively deal with this problem than this, or Microsoft's other suggestion: buy Excel 2002.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    Regards

Excel cannot show details of a total if more than one total field exists in the PivotTable.

    Found the Work Around:

Use the Save As Web Page feature. Save only the PivotTable Sheet, and choose the Interactivity box. Publish, and then Publish again with PivotTable Interactivity, and the resulting HTMl file allows you to drill down to the data.
