Allow User to Open Appl Only Once (A2k (9.0.3821) SR-1)

Allow User to Open Appl Only Once
A2k (9.0.3821) SR-1

Is there a way to keep the operator from opening an application, minimizing it, them opening same again from the original Icon?

If this is allowed to happen, what are the consequences?

Thanks, John

From memory you have to use an API to check all apps loaded in memory - checking for the name of the app and if it already exists quiting the application. At least I think that is how we used to do it...a little sketchy.

I'll go away and have a squiz at the APIs and see if it joggs my memory.

Anyone else?

Then again, another solution could be to 'club' your users into submission / training them to learn how to use windows ? ... nah ...

Yeah, have a look for information on the EnumWindows API.

This will return each titlebar text for each application open.

If you need any more help..yell

Hi Steve

Thanks, code works great.

Another solution:

"The simplest way to ensure that only one instance of the database can be opened on one desktop is to open the mdb file exclusively. "

If running be db on server and fe db on each client computer, is there any disadvantage to open the fe db file exclusively to accomplish same goal?

Off the top of my head <img src=/S/shrug.gif border=0 alt=shrug width=39 height=15>
I think that if you open the Front-end exclusively then the linked back-end will be opened exclusively thus locking anyone else out of it. I stand to be corrected/educated on that! (I can't test it at the moment either!)
