Networking with Dialup

I might be moving to a location which does not offer broadband (the DT's have already begun). Thus I will have to revert to dialup. Currently I have my 2 PC's networked with a Linksys 4-Port Router. What I would like to know is if there is a DECENT Router available that will allow me to network my PCs using a dialup connection.

A friend recommended the USR 8000a and I found the SMC7004aBR in at a local retailer. But I'm still unsure if either/both can be used with a permanent dialup connection.

Can anyone confirm if either one of these units will work? Are there any other brands available that will work? Which would you recommend?

I've also read a few posts here about using 2 NIC's and ICS, but nothing specific about "how to", advantages, disadvantages etc.

Basically what I am wanting to do is network my 2 XP machines for file sharing but mostly to share a single dialup connection where my wife can do what she wants online independently of me. And, where my PC would NOT have to be on 24/7 for her to go online.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Re: Networking with Dialup

Several years ago, WinGate was recommended to me for sharing the Internet connection from a single PC's modem connection. I don't know if the product is still tops in the class, but it might be worth a look. (I think the hub functionality of your current router should continue to work, but whether you can hang a modem off of it without a PC, I don't know.)

Thanks for the tip. I had someone recommend "AnalogX Proxy" as well. I have no experience with either of these programs but perhaps one or both will do what is needed.
