Printing Embedded Excel in Word (Office 2000 SR1 )

New to the list Going to try to give as much info as I can.

Have a template in excel that we use to insert numbers for financial statements (accounting firm) the colems have debt credit and things like that.

Then we have a Word template that has a lay our of our Financial statements with the company headers and information about how the FS was prepared just random things nothing really imoprtant.

We have it set up to open the Excel portion and it has all the numbers in it. We then open the word Doc and it fills in the tables in word with the numbers... this makes it easy for the accountants to go back to excel and change the numbers and have it update the word dock.. easier to work with the table in excel than in work and keeps everything neet.

So the problem is this. When we print these docs the font is messed up. Everything looks good in print preview... we have triend local and network printers... HP.. Mita... Cannon drivers Post script drivers everything we got here.

The strange thing is it does not always happen just seems to be random.. I can print 10 in a row great then one messes up then print it again and its fine.

this is not your normal font messed up we are talking like a 1 font and then jumps to 40 then back ... again looks fine on print preview and have tried every driver we have and still the same problem.

also sometimes the tables show up on the wrong page when printed.

Again drivers all look good and would thing if it is a driver issue would always happen and not be so random

i guess I will wait to get a reply before writing you guys a book... maybe something that hapens and you know what I am talking about so wont keep going.

Oh boy it is way past my best time right now, but I will try and answer you. If you place this message in the Word lounge, maybe someone there can help as well.

I know that MS-Excel 5.x, yes way back then, did not like to do a lot of repetitive printing. That is, if you have a workbook that has one worksheet and you populate this one sheet and then print it, and the populate it again and print again, and keep doing this population and printing, at some point, before the printer runs out of paper, Excel used to GPF and stop working.

The only remedy I remember was a custom code written to shutdown Excel and Windows and reboot the PC, and then start Windows and Excel and then Excel will read an INI file for the last good page printed and continue from that point. It was not easy and it took a lot of work. I don't have the code any longer as well <img src=/S/shrug.gif border=0 alt=shrug width=39 height=15>.

So try and print all the document 100 times and see if it happens. Then try to print one page at a time, and you will see that it might fail.

Sorry that I have no real solution, but after all maybe that has nothing to do with what is going on with you.

I have tried to exit the progam and go back in. Even reboot beetween prints and it still is the same problem. The strangest things is I can print it reboot and it wont work then try and print it again and it does. This problem seems to be completly random.

Looks like I am getting quite a few views on this but everyone seems to be in the same boat I am and that is have no idea whats causing it boat.

Man this is starting to be a huge problem for me.

If someone knows of another recourse to use besides this forum please let me know.

I have tried other mailing lists and researched on the web and can not find anything.

Have found quite a few places where people mention similar problems with embedded spread sheets but they have no solutions either.

I have searched the forum and can't seem to find anything. I have tried everything I know... new drivers different computers different financial statements.

I opened a big can of worms on this one.

Checked the fonts they print fine. Now when you print its not even printing the same thing thats on the screen. Its taking numbers from one page and putting them on a different page. Have no idea why it is doing that.

Think it has to be something with the macro's but not sure...

Maybe someone could answer this... how does the printer know what to print?

Does that make sence... if it is in print preview fine how is it not print out correctly... Does not work print preview use the print driver that is assigned at that time as a default.

I think the whole process is messed up. No standard how the FS were made and how the macro's and formulas that pull the numbers came from.

Maybe you could use "Mail Merge" in Word to merge the data from a named range in the Excel sheet to a "catalog" document in Word. Then formatting would be completely handled on the Word side.

This would, however, require the users to do the "merge" action to create the final version. They might not like that.

PLAN C: Get all that "not important" formatted text into the Excel workbook and skip Word altogether. You can make a spreadsheet look a lot like that .DOC with features like:

- merge cells
- word wrap
- headers/footers
- insert graphics
- print to fit within one page
- etc...

I've had to completely rework a number of Office applications because of bizarre, inexplicable errors that I just couldn't find the cause of. Sometimes you find the conditions that cause the bug, but you can't fix the bug, so you have to redesign your app to avoid those conditions. At some point I'd rather switch than fight. :-)

I have had problems with font size CHANGES WITHIN CELLS in Excel causing incorrect print formatting.
