Problems w/Normal template (Office 97 on W2k Pro)

    Hi folks,
I'm a consultant w/a client running an NT 4.0 network, who just got a new Win2KPro workstation added to the network. He's got MS Office 97 for all workstations. I loaded it onto the W2K workstation as the administrator, and have no problems running it. However, when a user runs MS Word, even with no document opened besides New, on closing we get the message "Word cannot save or create this file. The disk may be full or write-protected. " Then, it says, "Changes have been made that affect the global template. Do you want to save those changes?" -- when absolutely nothing has been done.

    It's a clean install of Win2K on a brand-new computer.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance.

Presumably it is trying to create a Normal.Dot for the user.
What folder does the user see under Tools > Options > File Locations > User Templates?
Does the user have write access to that folder?

    Hi,
Thanks for the posts. Yes, the second KB article addresses the problem.
