my OE won't dial ISP (OE 5/5.5 on Win 98/Me)

If I work off line, compose a message and then hit send, OE will not bring up the dial up connection dialog box. Instead it goes through the motions of sending and tells me "an error occurred trying to complete this task" (tell me something I don't know, please). It's no big deal really, I just start IE and that brings up the dial up connection dialog and I'm away. My fathers OE/Win Me combination to the same ISP behaves in the same way.

Here's the rub, Doing the same thing on my mother-in-law's OE/Win Me setup, work off line, write a message, press send, behaves logically and the dial up connection dialogue appears and thus all is well. I've looked in all sorts of settings but I can't find what is different between her setup and mine, other than she uses a different ISP.

Any pearls of wisdom out there?

Thanks to those that looked but were unable to offer a solution. I've finally got to the bottom of it myself...

Tools | Accounts | Mail tab | Properties |Connection tab uncheck the 'Always connect to this account using:' box.
