Controls do not work on web page (Excel 97)

I am working on a web page that links to an Excel 97 file on a fileshare. The file includes a macro which works when the file is displayed in the web page. It also contains several controls (from the Control Toolbox) which refuse to co-operate. The fileshare and file are not read only. What additional steps do I have to do to make the conrtols work? I could not trace any threads on this.

Just a guess: check the security settings in your browser.

    In Internet Explorer:
    Select Tools/Internet Options.
Click the Security tab. Internet should be selected.
Click Custom (or Custom Level, depending on version)

The various options under "ActiveX controls and plug-ins" should be set to Enable or Prompt, in particular "Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins".

Hans, thanks for your suggestion. It was a good idea but unfortunately it didn't do the trick.

Re: Controls do not work on web page (Excel 97)

I would like to amend my original post.
    1) I have removed protection from the source file - should have thought of this earlier.
    2) when I try to use the combo boxes on the web page I get the following message:
That control can only be used while the worksheet is displayed as a separate window.
Do you want a separate window for the worksheet?
Click Yes to open a separate window in which you can edit the worksheet and use the control.
Exit on the File Menu to return to the original window.

I obviously don't want this message to appear when the users access the file from the web page.

Whether Excel worksheets open in a separate window is a Windows setting. You'll have to instruct your users how to change this. See <!post=post 145716,145716>post 145716<!/post> for instructions.
