Task Manager

I cannot run any Tasks from the Task Manager/Scheduled Tasks in W2k. I get the error "Unable to start the service"
The Services tab in COmputer Mamagement gives "Error 5: Access is denied" when I try to start the service manually. This is when logged in as a user with full admin rights, and also when logged in as the Administrator.

I don't know that this would solve anything, but you can run the system file checker to verify the integrity of your system's software. Takes a while and wants the CD but a
worthy endeavor.

%windir%System32sfc.exe /scannow

I'm assuming you have SP1 installed - if not, you should install it.

Hi,
Thanks for the advice, it didn't solve my problem, but i'm sure it's a good idea to run sfc periodically anyway.

Cheers,

Re: Task Manager - can't schedule Tasks

Hey Mark,

Did you ever figure out an answer to this one? I, unfortunately, have encountered the same problem on a few machines and can not figure out a fix.

The below MSKB article on the Task Scheduler is the error I am receiving, but their suggestion doesn't fix it on my computer.

http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/ar...s/Q246/1/83.ASP

Every time I try to schedule a TASK, the error I receive is "Object Already Exists". I have full administrative rights to this machine with Win2K SP1 and IE55SP1.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Hi,

I didn't find any solutions, I just learned to live with it The knowledgebase artice you reference doesn't help me either, the protected stroage is already running on the machine.... <img src=/S/bingo.gif border=0 alt=bingo width=15 height=22>

Re: Task Manager - can't schedule Tasks

I have full control and ownership over the system root.

My error is not "Access Denied", but "Object Already Exists".

Don't know why this is happening to only a few of our similarly configured computers.

Any other thoughts?
