    mmc.exe (windows xp)

My original problem seems to be related to mmc.exe although I believe that this is just a secondary indicator. I continually get an error message in the Event Console which sometimes may be causing a blue screen diagnostic with a Memory_Management, Page_Fault_In_Nonpaged_Area, Pfn_List_Corrupt indicated. I have stopped all the TSRs running, I believe, and the Application Error Microsoft Management Console says AppName:mmc.exe AppVer:5.1.2600.0 ModName:unknown. The following files will be included etc. appcompat.txt But of course I can't find this file to find out what is going on. Sending it to Microsoft would be useless. Anyone have any ideas how to find out what is going wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am having to use a 300 Mhz Celeron instead of a 2.2 Ghz P4. I don't always get the blue screen but always get the same diagnostic.

    Did a search at Google on mmc.exe and most of the hits refer to "W32/Nimda@mm" a virus <img src=/S/devil.gif border=0 alt=devil width=15 height=15>

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Yes, I did but didn't figure out what to do. I uninstalled Norton Anti-Virus and need to run it from the CD, but I am not sure that the CD (Norton SystemWorks 2002) will find the bad files. I don't know how I got Nimda if that is what it is, and don't know if I should just reinstall XP. In 98 I could extract files from the CD and delete the original and overwrite it. Does that work with XP? I have faithfully updated Norton and while could have picked up the virus on my laptop and copied the files, I don't see how it got into the Desktop that way. Also, the laptop, which I am using now, doesn't seem to be bad.
