My Documents Missing from the Desktop

The other day I found a blank space on my desktop where "My Documents" usually sits. The folder itself still exists, in the proper location. Creating a new desktop shortcut was easy, but it doesn't have the properties of the original, for example, appearing as a subfolder of the Desktop in Window Explorer.

    Microsoft's KB wasn't much help, at least the way I searched! <img src=/S/brickwall.gif border=0 alt=brickwall width=25 height=15>
    How I can restore?

    See this document from MS

If you don't have this entry in your registry you could try re-creating it

I think the solution to your problem is actually fairly simple. Open a Windows Explorer window, and then click on Tools - Folder Options. On the View tab, there is a check box for Show My Documents folder on desktop.

That was it! I had looked there, and simply overlooked that check box. I think I must have accidently unchecked it while showing someone how to use those options.

    Thanks! <img src=/S/clapping.gif border=0 alt=clapping width=19 height=23> <img src=/S/fanfare.gif border=0 alt=fanfare width=31 height=23> <img src=/S/bravo.gif border=0 alt=bravo width=16 height=30>
