Underline (Word 2002 using Win 2000 Pro)

I am sure in previous versions I was able to press shift and underline using the underline key (i.e. above the hyphen). I can no longer do that. However, I tried pressing CTRL U first and then pressing shift and underline and I could happily type the line I wanted.

Is this a change, or am I imagining it or missing something? I'm interested because it took a while to think to use CTRL U first.

    Thanks for your help. <img src=/S/confused.gif border=0 alt=confused width=15 height=20>

Do you mean that Shift+hyphen doesn't type an underscore _ ? If so, does this happen in Word only, or in all programs? In the latter case, you might have a keyboard problem.

Or do you mean that you don't get a complete line when you type a few underscores and press Enter? In that case:
    Select Tools/AutoCorrect...
Select the "Autoformat as you type" tab.
    Check the Borders checkbox.

Well, thank you Hans V. Your first understanding was correct - shift+hyphen did not type an underscore. I actually have the Borders checkbox off because it drives me mad when it automatically changes to a complete line. However, I checked it, used it, went back and unchecked it and now shift+hyphen works !! Hopefully it will continue to do so.

    Thanks for your help.
