    drag/drop bookmarks ((mozilla 1.0))

    Hey all you 'zillas

I'm on win98SE. When I try to drag the page icon from the address bar to anyplace in my bookmark list, only the first folder I come to will fly open, if I go any further, further down the main list or into the one that just opened, I cant access any other folders to drop the bookmark into. Never had this happen with netscape 4.xx.

I cant find any mention of this in newsgroups or the mozilla site, so maybe it is just me. Anyone come across this?

Also, any recommended mozilla newsgroups/forums for basic questions like this? I've been looking at netscape.public.mozilla.general

    Thanks, Dave

Do you have your bookmarks on your Personal Toolbar or up on the primary command line? I stumbled on the fact that I can't drag-and-drop to the bookmark command on the primary command line. I don't have any trouble doing it if I let Mozilla show the bookmark button on the personal toolbar.

Go to the server news.mozilla.org and choose. There's several.

    Re: drag/drop bookmarks ((mozilla 1.0))

Thanks for the pointer to the news server and your observations, but no dice, I have the bookmark button on my personal toolbar, plus a dozen subfolders. If I drag a link to any of these, they will expand. If I drag further, one more subfolder will open, and that is it. Interestingly, I can drag the link to any depth of subfolder on the bookmark tab of the sidebar. It is unwieldy, as they open slowly, but it does work.

The only other factor I can think of is that when I installed Mozilla, it populated my bookmark list, but with an outdated version. Where that came from I do not know, it did not match the bookmarks in the Netscape 4.xx browser that I was using up to then. As advised (somewhere) in the mozilla faq, I replaced the Bookmarks.html file with the then current one from Netscape 4.xx and all was well. Maybe that broke the drag and drop.

Anyway, thanks again and I'll keep looking a bit before I try a re-install.

I've been meaning to write since you made that last post and forgot! I have the same problem you do with dragging bookmarks, so I don't think it was the bookmark file Mozilla "imported" when you installed. I think what we've got here is a genuine bug! I'm gonna go check some of the newsgroups and see if I can find any mention of it. Otherwise we'll have to keep hangin' in there.

I really love Mozilla. Sorry it took me so long to get away from Netscape, so I'll tolerate these little inconveniences. One of MY biggest complaints is not being able to paste a graphic into an email message from the clipboard. I don't know if it's because I use ClipMate or not.

Dave, I did check the bug lists at the Mozilla web sites and they're loaded with "drag and drop" problems. I don't know if they'll ever fix it, but we can only hang in there.

I know this is an old post, Dave, but just in case you hadn't noticed - In Mozilla 1.1 they seem to have "fixed" the drag-n-drop problem with bookmarks. In my opinion they only half-way fixed it since it still will not work if you try to drag a URL to bookmarks on THE command line. It only works to the bookmarks button on the personal toolbar, but it least it will let you drill down into the folders.

    Re: drag/drop bookmarks ((mozilla 1.0))

    Hey Now!

I know this is a really old thread, and I am still on v1.0.1, but I stumbled on another way to drag and drop bookmarks.

Click once and release on the icon on the left of the address line. An Add Bookmark window appears. Click again on the icon and drag it into the window which will then open folders and subfolders for you.

Dont know if this is still an issue with newer versions.

    Cheers, Dave
