    Sound OK in IE, won't play in Netscape (Front Page 2002)

    Can anyone please tell me why my page background sounds (MIDIs) play okay in IE browsers but not in Netscape browsers?
    Thanks,
    Bill

    When you view the source code of the published page, what is the code to play the sound? If it uses an <OBJECT> tag (ActiveX), I think that could be the reason.

    There may not be a cross-platform way to do it from inside FP. I think that if you set your compatibility options to include Netscape, incompatible features are grayed out, but this is a relatively hazy memory.

    Thanks Jeff,
    The script is just the standard script generated by FP by going to the Page Properties/General tab and browsing to the desired "background sound" file:
    <bgsound src="hellomyb.mid" loop="-1">
    This works for IE but not in Netscape.
    I have also inserted a second script which I found in an old "Netscape for Dummies" book as follows:
    <embed src="hellomyb.mid" autostart="true" loop="5" hidden="" width="128" height="128">
    Still didn't cut it for Netscape.

    Got it working in both! When reviewing my last post I noticed a second quotation mark inserted in the Netscape script after the hidden=. I removed it and now it works.
    (I must remember... in cyber-world its the little things that count) (Please just shoot me!)
    Thanks.

    IE is remarkably liberal in how it interprets HTML. When MS finally gets the XML strict document checking religion, about half of the web is going to stop working. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>
