    find files

When working with Windows ME I get this error message that system can not find the file" startup.exe or command.com" When I search for the file I can not find startup.exe, but do find three files for command.com and all are for MS DOS applications. Do I need these files and what are they used for? Can I get a copy of these files from another place and add them to my system and where? Thanks.

    I checked my WinME files...no startup.exe..but I did have 3 command.com - for MS-DOS applications.
I don't know what to tell you..maybe it is from a program you no longer have, but the OS thinks it is still there... <img src=/S/shrug.gif border=0 alt=shrug width=39 height=15>.

    Re: find files

It would help if we could discover which part of Windows ME is looking for startup.exe etc. For example, if it is being invoked because it is mentioned in win.ini it is possibly of only historical value.

Run msconfig.exe from Start|Run. Select the Startup tab and see if you can see either program name in the list. If you can, then the next column, headed 'loaded from' will identify what part of Windows ME is asking for this software.

    Best regards
