Can't Compact (97SR2) (Access 97/SR2)

When I try to compact my database, I get this message: "Record(s) can't be read; no read permission on
. (Error 3112). You must have read permission for the specified table or query to view its data. To change your permission assignments, see your system administrator or the table or query's creator."

I've checked the permissions. The only user is "Admin," who has all permissions checked for every object in the database.

I'm afraid if I don't compact it soon, it will swallow me whole! Can anyone offer a suggestion as to how to avoid the error message? Thanks!

Re: Can't Compact (97SR2) (Access 97/SR2)

Thanks for the tip!

I downloaded the program, and it did successfully compact my database. I was then able to compact the database as usual, from the "Tools" menu, without getting the error message. So whatever the problem was, it seems to have gone away.

Thanks again.

Can't say that this will work but it's worth a try.

http://www.gracemere.com and grab Access Maintainer. It's always done the trick for me.

Hope it helps.

Re: Can't Compact (97SR2) (Access 97/SR2)

Thanks Abraxus, for this tip!
I got this variant from error 3112 when compacting an Access 97 backend: "Record(s) can't be read, no read permissions on 'PathFile.mdb'"
Weird 'cause I don't use the Access security (so no permissions set). The usual Repair & compact (from the Extra menu) didn't help.
After having compacted - repaired the file with Access Maintainer, the error was gone.

I've always had really good luck with Access Maintainer. Perhaps the best $10 I ever spent.
