    Snap to Grid (PowerPoint 97 & 2000)

There is a box that needs to be moved. Every time it is moved in Powerpoint it snaps to grid. I can hold down the ALT key while moving each object to prevent a snap to grid, however, how do you default to having the snap to grid turned off?

    Thanks much,

Sorry I don't have time for a long answer. Do a search, as we've covered this before and requires saving a 'normal' or 'blank' presentation with defaults in it.

Turns out that in most of the Office appls you can hold down the ALT key while you move the object. This temporarily disables the sanp-to-grid behavior. There's also another way to turn off this behavior that escapes me at the moment. While in PPT, press F1 for help and look for "snap to grid."

My best way to turn on and off the 'Snap to Grid', is to load the drawing toolbar from the 'View' drop down menu; Toolbars; Drawing. On my system, the toolbar appears on the bottom of my monitor.

I am using PP2000 but the 97 version is very similar.
Now the Left Most button on the Drawing toolbar is labeled, "Draw". Click that and ensure that it expands completely. The "Snap" item will take you to two enable/disable options, 1. Grid and 2. Shape.

If you deselect both the Grid and Shape, you will not snap to anything and you can precisely move or place objects on your slide.

Or imprecisely if drawing is not one of your gifts. <img src=/S/wink.gif border=0 alt=wink width=15 height=15>

Thank you very much for you input...

It's nice to come somewhere and ask for help when you need it.
