Bad C drive icon and error dialog after XP upgrade (XP Home Edition)
I upgraded Windows XP Home Edition as an upgrade to Windows Me. After the installation, the icon for the C: drive when I open "My Computer" is wrong and I cannot double-click the drive to browse it. When first opening "My Computer" the drive icon is correct for a second, then changes to look almost like a standard menu page icon. (Illustration attached)
Double-clicking brings up an error dialog "Windows XP Setup - Please go to the Control Panel to install and configure system components."
Other than this error, the drive is functioning properly and seems to be properly configured. A right-click on the icon then "Explore" or "Open" command works properly. Drive model is IBM-DTLA-307045.
Has anyone seen else seen this behavior, or can you recommend a fix?
