Trillian

Does anyone use this? What are your thoughts if you do. I have thought about downloading it but am unsure if it is any different than all the other crapy instant messaging software out there. Thanks.

Re: Trillian

Been using it for over a year now and I can't complain one iota. All of the major features from all of the major IM clients are supported, it's skinnable, easy on memory, and.....

One program, all chat clients, all the time.

I was using between 10-15MB RAM for each client before Trillian. Now it's about 12MB for all of them.

I don't know what you define "crappy instant messaging software" but Trillian beats them all in my book. There is a new version under wraps that is supposed to be even better than the current (.73 as of this posting) one, but I liked .70 so much that I sent a donation in to keep the development alive.

That, and the Trillian forums are always there in the event that you have problems with it. The flip sid eto all of this is that I keep the other IM programs installed, just in case - usually to permanently remove MSN buddies that keep coming back (I use the same IM handle at the office and home so it's a pain!).

HTH,
-Mark

Re: Trillian

I liked Trillian, but trying to connect to the dal.net servers really sucked! Out of attempting 80+ connections, I was only able to use this 8 times at the most. I also decided to uninstall it because I kept getting 'user.exe' errors...too many times to satisfy me.
I guess Trillian just doesn't like me

Trillian,
wasn't that Zaphod Beeblebrox's girlfriend in HGTTG (or am I in the wrong forum). I liked that Trillian!

In fact.....that's where the name of the software came from. There's a tribute to the author right on the front page!

Re: Trillian

Sorry Lonnie - Surprised with the slow download - This is the BBC and you shouldn't be getting that kind of performance from their site. (Well maybe had England won the world cup - but they didn't ). All of this is from the Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy trilogy in five parts. Written by Douglas Adams, who is no longer with us , It ran on BBC Radio and then on TV some years ago. But to save you the trauma, the answer is

< big>42

And sorry to all for hijacking this thread. I promise never to do it again (well at least until next time, or if I can see the opportunity for a good pun)

Re: Trillian

No problem...errr, World Cup?...guess that has to do with sports...right?
Stole the thread?...oh my ! ...you are forgiven
But really, any idea why Trillian does this stuff to me? I am a good girl, really I am...I don't have AOL on my computer..I have all the good programs for protecting my data, etc (what little data I do have installed)...I am just a little old ...harmless,etc. I do want Trillian...why is it picking on me? OMG !...you don't think it's because i have WinME as my OS? If that's the case...can I plead poverty as an excuse for having WinME? Can I plead at The Hague?

Re: Trillian

I can't say why you are having problems with Trillian, but I can say that if you ghaven't downloaded it recently, you should try again. There have been several point releases to address connectivity issues and to squish bugs, and the most recent build is quite stable.

If you run the program and it insists on generating faults, Cerulean Studios has a great support forum on their website, and you can usually find the answers you need. You can also email the developers from within the program itself, but it would behoove you to check the Trillian forums to find an answer (probably faster to do that too).

And I hate to tell you this, but there's no excuse for Windows ME - but if you're stuck with it, we won't blame you. ME is notoriously buggy and could quite possibly be part or even all of the reason you are having trouble!

Re: Trillian

Mark..I did have the latest version...I did the forum thing...still no joy! ...everything was setup correctly...even had 3 different friends help me 1 step-at-a-time to install/fill-in blanks on the various pages,etc... ...dang 'user.exe' errors from Trillian...air around my computerdesk was turning blue...plus dal.net trying to connect via the various parts/servers was driving me also...kept getting 'autokill' and connect/disconnect...very tiring when watching said connections via dal.net pass thru each server for 5-10 minutes and getting zero, zilch, nada..
BTW...Trillian is the ONLY program that is screwy on my WinME...other than that, no problemo with WinnyMe

Re: Trillian

That sucks Lonnie. I'm having problems getting it to work here on my work computer. It just won't connect. it is always failing to connect or some such thing. I don't care that much anymore though I gave up on it working.

Mark... I've used this program myself (o.72), but I haven't been able to do voice communications with it. Am I missing something, or is it in there, and I just don't know about it .
