Google search from the address bar (IE 6.0)

In TweakuiXP/Internet Explorer/Search there is a feature to allow you create a "shortcut" word that when typed in the Address Bar of IE it will invoke that particular search engine with the results of your search criteria. For example, on my own XP machine, I created one for Google, by using go as my "shortcut" key. So that now if I would type in the IE Address Bar: <font color=blue>go Woody's Lounge</font color=blue> and hit "Enter", Google will open with the all the results for "Woody's Lounge".

The problem is on my other XP machine. This doesn't want to work???? Any ideas why it doesn't? and/or how can I get it to work as it should? <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

    what happens?

do you have address bar searching enabled? (i forget if it's in the search options of the search bar or in tools | options...)

You know, you can create shortcuts for your favorite search engines (that return urls with the search string). Replace the search string with %s then type shortcut keyword in the address bar.

I have one for google web:
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftInternet ExplorerSearchUrlGW]

    and when i type
    GW outlook
    google searchs for outlook

    MaryJ,

What happens is that the search goes to MSN Search and not Google.??

Yes, address bar searching is enabled.

    I'll add the Registry string and see how that works. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

    Thanks,

    MaryJ -

That is a sweet function. Do you know if this tip is documented anywhere (other than here <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>)? I've never seen mention of it. While I was at it, I created a couple more for myself for dictionary and thesaurus lookups at m-w.com (in case anyone is interested):

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftInternet ExplorerSearchUrldict]

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftInternet ExplorerSearchUrlthes]

I've been using the Google toolbar for a while, and typically have my address bar closed within IE. But I use the address bar on the toolbar quite a bit - and this makes that even more useful. Thanks!
