    TOC IN WORD (Word 2000)

    I have an issue with a TOC in word. The document was created by an out sourcing company and brought in house. We tried to add something to the table of contents by marking the text. The text we mark looks like: 1.1 "ACT": and when we mark this and bring it into the TOC it comes across looking like: 1.1 "ACT Could anyone advise.

    Can you post the document? To sanitize it, if that is an issue, you could search and replace a bunch of different letters and numbers so it is undecipherable.

    Here is the document. Let me know what you think. This is only a piece of it but enough I think to give an example of the problem that I am having.

    Re: TOC IN WORD (Word 2000)

    I think the slash is resulting from an attempt to insert a second quotation mark after the word:

    { TC "1.1 "Act<font color=red>"</font color=red>" f C l "3" }

    But instead of being interpreted as a literal quotation mark, the slash+quotation mark is being interpreted as a slash character and the end of the string. I've never tried to insert a quotation mark into a text string in a field. I didn't see this topic covered in the online help in Word 2000; hopefully someone else knows how to make it work. Or maybe you have some time to comb the MS Knowledge Base.

    Actually, After long hours I finally firgured it out. The mark feature did not like the straight quotes. When I did a search and replace and changed them all to Smart quotes and then went back and marked them all it worked fine. Go figure... Its hard to believe but Microsoft had nothing about this either. Thanks for your input and if this ever happens to you, now we know what to look for.!!

    Good news. While it is extremely illogical that that should work, that is the way bugs tend to operate. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>
