Menu actions Crash (Office 97 pro SR2)

    Thanks for being there...

When selecting several cells and going to the drop down font size menu Excel stalled. Had to Ctrl-Alt Del to exit it. After some testing.. I conclude in Word and In Excel (have not tested others) it seems that any menu command cause this freezing up.... even in new documents,

I deinstalled all of office and re installed it.. No dice. I use PC Cillin and updates everday and it was on and currently finds viruses....

    Any thoughts.

Did anything momentous occur before this problem started?

Installed any new software or updates recently?

Do Word's keyboard shortcuts work, such as Ctrl+F12 to open, Ctrl+S to save, and Ctrl+F4 to close?

If you can get into the macro editor, Alt+F11 and open the Immediate window Ctrl+G, you can reset your toolbars to their defaults by typing in or pasting in each of these lines and pressing Enter to run it:

    CommandBars("Menu Bar").Reset
    CommandBars("Standard").Reset
    CommandBars("Formatting").Reset

Not sure if that will remove the gremlins or not.
