Write Windows/Read Mac (2000, 2002)

I know a Windows PowerPoint file can be read with a PowerPC (Mac) that has PowerPoint. Can a Mac user who does NOT have PowerPoint use the Windows PowerPoint viewer to view a Windows-created file?
    Thanks

I don't think any Windows executable will run on the Mac unless the user has an emulator (possibly software only, possibly software running on an x86 processor add-in card) and the software doesn't play any tricks with low level system calls.

Thanks - I'll pass that on to the person who asked.

The Lounge is such a wonderful resource for those of us who help others. It helps cover the great glaring gaps in individual knowledge!!

Edited by jscher2000 on 02-Jul-02 22:56.
I was doing some reading on web archives this afternoon and came across this. It might help if IE for Mac can read these files: HOW TO: Create PowerPoint Presentations for Viewing on Computers That Do Not Have PowerPoint Installed (Q291348). I haven't tried it out yet.

Forgot to mention: while this is native to XP, it is an add-on for Office 2000: Office 2000 Add-in: Web Archive.

I haven't installed this yet either.

    Re: Write Windows/Read Mac (2000, 2002)

As a follow-up to my previous message on Web Archives, I did download the add-in, experiment with the Web options, and generate a small enough sample to upload to the Lounge. The layout of the clip-art in relation to the wording isn't exactly right in the HTML version, and the animation patterns aren't as perfect, and I had to change the character set of the bullets, and my slide titles are too boring, but... IT WORKS! Now the question is, will it run on the Mac? The user probably will need IE 5.x for the Mac or higher. Good luck.
