No .pst file found (OL 2000 on W2k OS)

One of our work computers on Windows 2000 has Office 2000 installed and I can't find anywhere that it created a .pst file on the local drive. It's reading mail fine, etc., but I want to actually use a different pst file AND back it up.

Is there some reason it's not using a .pst file and how do I tell it which one it's using if it is using one?

If you looked for it using Find Files, it maybe in a hidden folder.

Try this: Open Outlook and make sure the folder tree is visible (View|Folder list). Right-click the top-level folder (often "Outlook Today"), choose properties, then click the Advanced... button. The dialog should list the complete path for the .PST containing the Inbox.

There are other ways to get to this dialog, but the route can depend on the configuration mode. This should work in all cases.

OK, I'll look at that tomorrow at work and get back with you.

Why would I not be able to view it using explorer and searching for any *.pst file?

While the .pst may or may not be hidden, by default it is set up in a hidden folder and, by default, Windows does not allow the user to see or search down into a hidden folder. You can change this default in Windows Explorer under Tools, Folder Options, on the View tab, as illustrated below.

Ahh, that was it. I should have thought of that. This is a newer computer and all of "my" computers I turn on to be able to view all files. All taken care of.

    Thanks!
