I know someone can tell me this ...

How do you set up exchange to deal with subscriptions ?
I have a user who sends out email to 'everyone@site.co.uk' and this is annoying the staff who dont want it.
I want to place a page on our intranet that will allow people to subscribe to the mail outs. then when there is a mailing the user can send it to 'myfanclub@site.co.uk' everyone is happy. We will need an unsubscribe link at the foot of the document that then gets people out of the distribution list too.

I know its possible as i want the same function as we all use with Woody's Watches <img src=/S/bow.gif border=0 alt=bow width=15 height=15>.

    Can anyone talk me through it please ? <img src=/S/cheers.gif border=0 alt=cheers width=30 height=16>

    Father Jack

Exchange 5.5 or 2000 cannot be setup to provide 'subscribe' services automatically. I believe that there is 3rd party software is available that will enable you to do this.

    A couple of workarounds:

    1) Assuming that the mails are sent in html, would be to encode an 'unsubscribe me' link that creates and sends a mail to a specified address, however, this address would have to be monitored and the distribution list maintained manually. You intranet site could also use the "mailto:" coding to send a mail to a mailbox requesting that they be included in the distribution list.

    or

    2) Your request seems to imply that all of the receivers are internal to the exchange server sending out the mail, you could make the distribution list public and allow people to remove themselves or maybe subscribe themselves - starting with a blank distribution list.

Mike, thanks for the reply, i had forgotten about the post until now as it had been so long. I have however still got the problem !!

yes, all of the recipients are inside our network. is it possible to make the distribution list work so that the only person that can be subscribed / unsubscribed is the individual who wants to be ? ie. i dont want someone else setting me up or removing me from the list.

As you can tell i am a complete exchange novice, brief idiots guide to carrying out the set up would be greatly appreciated or is there somewhere i can look it up (technet, www.microsoft.com ...) ?

    cheers
