    Missing Help Topics (A2k2)

I'm apparently missing a few (a lot) entries in my VBA Help File.

    For example, the phrase

    OpenRecordset Method (DAO)

appears under "Choose a topic" on the help screen, but there is no entry for it

NextRecordset Method (DAO) is the same.

    DeleteRecord (ADO) is also missing

I have done a detect & repair recently, but not just now, although I will try it now. Is there another help file to install? if so how. Is it references?

It appears to apply to all items with a Bracketed reference after it. I've had a look in the help file, and can't find any help.

    Hoping you can help.

Did you install VBA help when you installed Office, or is this a problem that just turned up recently? VBA help isn't installed by default, so you have to either do a custom install or a complete install to get it.

I couldn't recall how I istalled, but I do have VBA help running.

Just in case, I've just done a re-install (custom) and the choices are still unavailable.

PS I've just discovered that its not only items with a bracketed suffix.

Try copying the files mentioned in the "workaround" inhttp://support.microsoft.com/search/previe...b;en-us;Q249065. That solved a problem with help that sounds similar to yours. Note that when I tried it only some of the files needed replacing (I don't recall which ones), but once I copied what needed copying, the help worked fine.

We need to know a couple of details to be more helpful. What version of Windows are you running? And what version of Access (I'm not sure if A2k2 means Access 2000 SR2 or Access 2002). There are several scenarios described in the MS knowledge base that give problems, but there are some fairly serious deficiencies with Access 2002 help files.

    Re: Missing Help Topics (A2k2)

The article refers to Office 200, and says it is corrected in 200 SR1.

Surely it is not a problem in 2002 again.

In any event, I'm on a network install, so I can't find the files referred to in the article. Are they still used in 2002?

    Re: Missing Help Topics (A2k2)

Your setup is the same as mine, but I've not installed SP-1. Suppose I should, but maybe it makes the help files worse than they already are. One thing I did find is that if you go to the table of contents in help, you can find lots of things that you never get pointed to with F1 help or with using the wizard help. All in all, help has gone downhill considerably from Office 97. <img src=/S/frown.gif border=0 alt=frown width=15 height=15>

    Re: Missing Help Topics (A2k2)

I agree that the help files are worse.

    I detest the current style.

MS changes your input as you type

when it does give you a response, the answers wre not sotred in alphabetic order.

Overall, finding help is much more difficult that before. Particularly with a product as complex as Access, a clear simple help system is essential. We do not have it with Office 2000 and now 2002.

But you're right, the contents listing can be helpfull (if you know where to look).

I'm running Office 2000 SR-1, but the instructions in the articles referenced didn't fix my help. However, copying the ado21.chm file to the ...Office1033 folder did finally give me the ADO help files.

Has anyone figured out how to get the missing DAO help? The DAO360.chm file is useless. The only thing it contains is "what's new in DAO".

    Re: Missing Help Topics (A2k2)

I recently installed Office XP (Developers Edition). Complete versions of both DAO and ADO Help are available from Access 2002 Help, as shown (though curiously absent from VB Help). The DAO360.CHM and ADO210.CHM files were both found lurking in the following folder: C:Program FilesCommon FilesMicrosoft SharedOffice101033. In same folder is another file: dao360.chw. This file is appx 1213 KB, DAO360.CHM is appx 568 KB. If you have DAO Help open the .chw file is also in use.

    Re: Missing Help Topics (A2k2)

Doesn't help me. I'm running Office 2k at home on Win2k Pro. I have administrator rights to everything, did a custom install when I set it up, and DAO360.chm is everywhere I could think to put it. ADO210.chm had to be copied to the Office1033 folder to get it to come up, but I haven't found a way to get DAO help yet. There is no such critter as DAO360.chw on my machine.
