    IR Control (Excel)

I would like to send commands IR commands from a PC to devices based on real time data. Example is to turn icing elements on when outside temp is less than 20 deg F. Or woulod it be better to do this with HTML? IS there VBA for sending IR and RS232 commands via linked buttons?

    Thanks,
    Jim

The types of things that you are talking about doing are normally done by a device driver, and VB or VBA are not languages that would be good for writing a device driver. There is nothing native in VBA to do what you are asking. This type of code would normally be written in C or Assembly Language.

If you must do this using VBA or HTML then a quick search for "ActiveX" and "RS232" on Google turned up <A target="_blank" HREF="http://www.tec-it.co.at/data-acquisition/rs232.htm">Data Acquisition ActiveX Software from TEC-IT.
Easy connecting to serial port (RS232)</A> and TConnector ActiveX (RS232, TCP, Data Acquisition) 1.1 in the first few hits.

In addition to what Legare and Stuart have posted, someone here in the Lounge a while back was writing some cash register software and had been able to open the cash drawer with a serial port connection. I do not recall how they did it, may have used the ActiveX that Stuart refers to. It may have been in this forum or in the VBA forum, you will just have to search for it.

You might also look at this post and a search for RS232 turns up some others.
