    View files on a CD as a Slide Show (XP Pro)

    Someone sent me a CD with JPG files that I would like to "View As a Slide Show" as I can do with pictures that are in the My Pictures folder. However, when viewing the CD contents with Explorer there is no option in the Task Frame to "View Pictures as a Slide Show" as there is in the My Pictures folder. Is there a way to do this from the CD?

    The following is from the help of XP:
    You can view your pictures as a slide show in any My Pictures subfolder or any <font color=red> folder customized as a pictures folder</font color=red>.

    If the folder that the CD is made from , has then settings set as a picture folder, it may work. But since you can NOT change these settings on s preburned CD I don not see how this can be done.

    Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

    Perhaps you would consider using a shareware or freeware application to do the same? I was a fan of ACDSee until version 4, but there are plenty around - try looking for IrfanView or some such on Google.

    Re: View files on a CD as a Slide Show (XP Pro)

    Dave,
    I found this post in an earlier post on the Lounge - which DID NOT WORK for me!
    To enable AutoPlay on any CD, you must put AUTORUN.INF file in CD root.
    This file must content text like this:

    [autorun]
    OPEN=slideshow.htm

    However by right clicking on the CD-R drive - Properties - Autoplay tab, I selected Pictures and for Actions, to Run as a Slide Show. This works great except on the the CD to which I copied the autorun.inf file. Now I can not delete the autorun.inf file (right clicking the file and selecting Delete, returns a message that this is a read only file - same thing if I try to change the file attributes. Any idea as to how I can either rename or delete this one file from this CD?

    Jim, if it's not CD-RW media, you can't do it. CD-R is write-once only.

    I have solved my problem. Thanks to all who replied. I found the solution was in Windows XP. By right clicking on the CD drive icon in MY Computer, and then selecting the Auto Play tab, you can select a content type for the CD and then tell Windows what to do. For Picture files, I selected "View as a Slide Show", and it works like a charm.
