    Outlook 2002 attachments (SP1)

We've all seen the Level1Remove hack that will allow us to see file extensions as attachments inOutlook XP. What I want to do now is go a step further and allow file attachments to be "opened" as attachments in Outlook XP. I can open .doc and .xls and many of the basic extensions but cannot get .com extensions to work. Ideas?

I use DetachXP, do a search at Google.com and you will find it.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

I've seen and tried DetachXP before. Isn't it only a quicker way to setup the Level1Remove? My goal here is to open .com attachments in Outlook XP. Should I try Detach again? Thank You.

If you use the medium or high risk setting you can open ".com" files.

    Re: Outlook 2002 attachments (SP1)

Have now reinstalled Outlook 2002 and ran Detach XP. Even when choosing the high risk option I cannot open a file with a .com extension. Outlook gives me a message stating: Warning! This file may contain a virus that can be harmful...etc. Then it only gives me a save to disk option or the option to cancel. There must be an option where Outlook would ask the user once, "Do you want to accept .com files in the future?" And then we can say "Yes" and also check a box telling Outlook to remember our decision. Any other ideas? Thanks for your assistance!

get chilton preview - it'll let you open anything from preview but won't render html.

Why would you want to open a .com attachment? I think no good can come of it.

Everyone blocks .exe files but .com files have all of the functionality of a .exe file. Just rename it. Anti-virus updates can be sent via .com extension and it is very useful in supporting remote users who do not have high-speed Internet access.

I recommend using .ZIP files. If you get users in the habit of executing .COM files, you might be setting them up for a tragic mistake.

Good advice always. These end users are receiving PkZip files that are orginally .exe and we switch to .com extension. Thank you for your input.
