    Paper Size Choices (Access 2000)

Is there a way in which, at print report time, I could have two command buttons in order to print either on standard-size paper or legal-size paper. I don't want the client to have to go to the printer screen in order to make the choice, albeit seemingly easy. They could easily get lost getting there or coming back.
    Cheers,
    Andy

Unfortunately, in Access 2000 you have to jump through a bunch of hoops to do that. That is supposed to be one of the significant improvements in 2002. You don't indicate whether you are printing a report or a query (or something else?), but with reports one solution is to have two different reports, one for standard letter, and one for legal. If anybody else has ideas, please chime in.

The simplest way is to use Wendell's suggestion and have separate report for each paper size. It's possible to set the paper size at runtime using PrtDevMode but it means you have to open the report hidden in design view and actually change paper size and save the report design.

    Charlotte & Wendell:
Thank you both for your suggestions. I guess I should have mentioned that I was printing reports and that I had already gone the one-of-each route. I just didn't think that was too sophisticated and that there might have been a more elegant way of doing this. If you two don't know of one, then it obviously doesn't exist.
    Thanks again.
    Cheers,

Read my post again. I do know the other way, but there are limitations on its use.

Thanks again, Charlotte. Your suggestion is one that I haven't pursued because the mere idea of the client opening anything in design mode, assuming I understand correctly, is just not a road I want to go down.

The client doesn't do it themselves, it's done in code behind the scenes. However, the permissions still have to be there for it to work.

    Charlotte:
If it's not too much trouble, could you possibly illustrate the code that you would use to do this? <img src=/S/help.gif border=0 alt=help width=23 height=15>

I'll have to dig it out of my office machine tomorrow. Stay tuned. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>
