(1) The feature you are trying to use ... (OffiXP)

Every couple of weeks, when I first open Word, Outlook or PP, Office will pop up a window saying "The feature you are trying to use is on a removeable disc..." and then it waits for me to place the Office XP installation CDROM in the drive. Seconds later it installs something (it doesn't say what) and I can finally use the application. It did it again today, in Outlook.

I have most features either installed or set as not to be used. The only "install first time used" feature on Outlook is called Template Files. I just re-checked this. Similarly, in Word, the only 'first time' features are Help For WP Users, Wizards and Templates and Page Border Art.

Note that, in Word and PP, the box pops up BEFORE I open any document. There aren't any macros, either.

Has anybody any idea what is happening?

    Best regards

What version of Windows are you running. There are some known problems with later versions of Office and the Windows installer. However, the business about a "removeable disc" suggests that you've installed some features to run form the CD, possibly help or books online or some of the templates involved?

    Thanks, Charlotte. I'm running WinME.

I think I covered your point about having features that run from the CD in my original question. To restate my point, there are several such features, but it is unlikely to be this alone because (a) they are inconsequential features like Help for WP users and ( the problem arises after I start MS Word and BEFORE I open a document for editing. If the feature was required by my normal.dot template I would expect to have this situation immediately I had updated this template. I don't normally update normal.dot and have not seen any correlation between my occasional updates of this and the problem arising.

Thanks again for your interest. Now that you know I'm running Windows ME does this help?

    Best regards
