Lost CD! (XP)

OK, there have been better days!

I've apparently got a corrupted copy of Office XP. I had tried to add WOPR's Macros... but something went amiss. So, I've decided to do what is easiest - reinstall the applications! -- but it's become even more problematic!

I've apparently misplaced the XP Office CD. For some reason, I had forgotten there must have been 3 CDs with this app, and the critical one is gone. I've found 'Step by Step Interactive Training' and 'Media Content'. So, having the product key in hand, I foolishly thought that I might be able to go to MS' web site and download the app (after all, I'm installing it on a machine they've been tracking and is already linked to Office XP).

I haven't found anything on their web site to indicate how to download the app, get a new copy of the CD, or any other sort of resolution. I had been avoiding registering for Passport, but went ahead to get advice on this problem. But the structured responses you must fill out prior to advice simply don't allow this problem to have occurred

Yes, it was a silly mistake... but I can't be the only person to have done this can I? I'm quite desperate to use some of these apps, and would appreciate any suggestion as to how to get XP installed again quickly!

Thanks!

Thanks Howard,

I've put the order in. Just as an interesting tidbit: MS gets quite a markup on these CDs! The new media are $25, Post Office shipping is $5, but overnight shipping is $25! (And that's only for shipping: they don't promise to get it out the door in a day). It appears that they also haven't bought into ebusiness -- there's no way to download the application. I could have very well given the same info that I provided via the phone over the web to verify ownership, and after all I still have to provide the key to launch. And, I'm admittedly desperate for the application to finish a project!

BTW, does anyone have any idea why there are 3 CDs in Office XP? Of course, the one I'm missing appears to be the application :-) The 2 that I do have are 'media content' and 'interactive training' :-(

Heck, there's 7 CD-ROM for Office XP Developer and they don't even come in jewel cases.

I would never opt for downloading an app if CD-ROM were available.

Hmm, perhaps it's time for me to give in and buy a writable CD drive so I can make back up copies of my critical CDs.
I think I'll start a thread on this in the Hardware forum.

My copy of Office XP upgrade came with 4 CD's.

The 2 in the jewel case are for the program, one is the program it self and the second is media content. Also included NOT in a case is a Visio Demo and Step by Step learning CD. The last two are the typical throw in, to get one to buy Visio and the step by step is in leu of a GOOD manual.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

None of the Office XP Developer upgrade CD's are in a jewel case.
I guess MSFT figures we can buy jewel cases.
Also, the copy of the Office XP Developer's Guide shipped with Ogffice XP devo does NOT include the index.
Need to buy a retail copy of the book to get the Index.

That was one of the silliest oversights Microsoft has made in a long time. What good is a book that size without an index? I haven't figured out whether they just assumed everyone would use Help (yeah, right!) or they simply didn't notice until it was out the door that they have left something out.

It is clear that was not an oversight, it was intentional. Somer idiot at MSFT made this decision and it slipped by those who should know better.

The evidence is that:

1. I pointed this out many months ago and requested that MSFT make the index available on the web. I've seen so action.

2. MSFT Press is deliberately NOT posting the Index for the retail copy at thre MSFT Press web site. I pointed this out to MSFT Press, again, they have not yet posted the Index.
