    Saving Attachments

When trying to save attachments (pictures GIF, JPeg) in a MSoft Hotmail account the pictures default to a HTML version of the file extension. As an example an attachment may be a JPEG file format and when trying to save it it defaults to a HTML version not the actual file name/extension depicted as the attachment. Is it possibe to save the file as is?

    Thanks,
    John

Make sure that it's not an HTML file that you are saving. If that's the case, you can force Windows to use your filename by enclosing it in double quotes in the save as box - for example "picture.jpg". This works anywhere within Windows, not just for IE or pictures, by the way - I use this tactic when working in Notepad, because it insists on tagging all files with .TXT.

    Re: Saving Attachments

How are you saving the attachments? Hotmail is now sending attachments through a virus scanner, so I'm not sure you can save the file directly using the links. If it's an image, it may be displayed at the bottom of the message, in which case it's probably easier to right-click the image and use Save As... to grab the file.

To be honest, I'm having problems with the new pages. Instead of downloading the image, I get a new browser that says it's for downloading the image, but I end up having to sign in and get sent back to my inbox. It seems easier to use Outlook Express 6 if you've got it installed.

    Good luck.

    Mark,

I tried you suggestion and it did not work. It did save the file as a "picture.jpg" but when I tried opening it, it appears that it is trying to open it as an HTML page.

The default for opening a *.jpg is to display it in Internet Explorer. Are you sure that it is not what it says it is? Can you open the file in Microsoft Picture Editor, Microsoft Paint or another graphics program? HTH
