    Not sure if this works in both OS's, but try:

    Open Explorer
    Select the type of view you want
    Tools > Folder Options
    Select "Like current folder"
    Then make sure you do NOT select "Remember each folder's view setting" or it will remember any temp changes you make.

    I don't think that explorer folder settings will affect application dialog boxes used for FileOpen, FileSave etc.
