adding to toolbar? (Outlook 97 SR-2)

Is there anyway to add a check for new mail button to the toolbar in outlook so I don't have to go to tools and then check for new mail?
Also whenever I start Outlook for the first time it does not automatically check for new mail, can I make it do that?

Also check out the "Tools, Options, and the 'Mail Setup' tab".

I've always pressed the F5 key for Send/Receive. I think that worked back in '97.
