    PP2000 and PP2002 Coexisting (2000 & 2002)

I have MS Office 2000 Premium loaded on my PC. I have a need to load PowerPoint 2002. Can I load PP2002 on my PC so that it can coexisting with PP2000? Or if I replace PP2000, can I do that without disrupting the rest of Office 2000? Any thoughts from anyone? If it makes any difference, I'm running Win2K.

In theory they are supposed to be able to co-exist. However people have reported a good many difficulties, particularly with Access, but also with other VBA projects when you do that. On the other hand, for most things Office 2002 is compatible with Office files - I've been running only that on my main production PC for about a year now. So you might consider just upgrading to Office 2002 (aka XP). For one thing an upgrade to PowerPoint on its own may be a challenge to find. You might also look at a second PC with PowerPoint 2002 if that's an option - my laptop only has 2000 on it. In any event I would proceed with considerable caution. Hope this helps some.

Thanks, Wendell. I was afraid that might be the case. I do some part time teaching of PowerPoint and the community college may not provide me with the entire Office 2002 suite. That is why I was asking about just loading PP. I do have additional PCs, so I probably will just load it on the extra one if all I get from the college is PP2002.

    Thanks, again.

Relating this back to '97 and 2000, you could NOT load 2000 without pretty much hosing '97 and it's interface and wiping certain features. Procede with extreme caution. I'll make an assumption you're working on a laptop. Look into a second hard drive and cosider loading the 'other' stuff on there. Not pretty, I admit, but servicable when needed.

Thanks, Grant. I have another PC, so I may just put it on one of them.

KTPies, I just wanted to echo the opinion that it's best to keep them seperate. I've tried multiple versions on one machine several times, and there's always an undesirable effect. It may be subtle at first, but it eventually rears it's ugly head. <img src=/S/meltdown.gif border=0 alt=meltdown width=15 height=15>

Thanks, Lenny for the advice. I agree.
