    Adresses in Outlook (Outlook 2000)

    Hello,

I have a couple of questions regarding the addressing in Outlook. Shouldn't the address in the "TO" or any other field automatically fill in as I start typing the first few letters? I thought that works. Is there a place where I have the option to turn that on?

Also, can I set a default somewhere in Outlook so that it will save the address from the incoming msg automatically into my contacts folder so that I don't have to do it "manually"?

    Thank you,
    Tira

First Q: The way mine works, it waits until you finish and then makes a best guess. If you have approved a particular nickname translation before, it has been stored and it will be much quicker the next time.

Second Q: Don't know. I think this has been asked and answered here before. Sure you want all those spammers in your address book? <img src=/S/wink.gif border=0 alt=wink width=15 height=15>

#1: Try hitting Cntrl_K after entering a few letters, this forces Outlook to resolve the name (and I think help remember them.)
Plus see OL2000: How to Quickly Search for a Contact (Q197421)

#2: More useful would be to have the name added when you reply.
    Tools > Options > Preferences >
and select "Automatically put people I reply to " - although this only puts them in your address book.

Re: Adresses in Outlook (Outlook 2000)

For the second point, I normally just drag the message from a new correspondent and drop it into the Contacts folder. Outlook grabs the name and e-mail information out and updates the new contact form appropriately. (There are some third party options which do a bit more than this. I remember seeing one called Anagram which did a good job of grabbing all the contact information out of the message and filling in all the fields in the contact form.)

    Hope this helps!

Thank you for your help. I believe Outlook Express actually fills in the name once you've added it one time.

I will check on the second Q; and see what I find.

Thanks, Leif. Ctrl. + K works great. Your 2nd answer re: adding addr. I can't find the option: Automatically put people I reply to" in the Tools - Options for Outlook 2000. Is that maybe in XP?

Well, it's in Tools|Options|Preferences click on Email Options and then look down at the very bottom in Outllook 2000 - IMO mode. (Can't check C/W mode at present.) HTH
