Combo Box go to record (access 2000)

    Hi
I am wanting to put a combo box on each form which lists the name of the records. The problem I am having is with the subforms the combo box will only let you go to the records that are associated with what ever the main form is on. I need to associate these forms but it is also necessary for me to find an individual record when i am not sure what system it belongs to and look at that record. I have a main system form and related to that is the subsystem form. I am wanting to be able to go to any record on the subsystem form.

    Thanks for your help

Could you explain this further, please? If you're trying to search in a linked subform, you can only see and search the related records in that subform because the recordset has been filtered by the parent form. In other words, you can't do it the way you're suggesting. There have been many discussions on similar questions, so you might want to do a Lounge Search in this forum on combobox and subform.

    Thanks for your reply.
That is exactly what i wanted so that answered that question. Basically i can't do it that way .. Can I do it as an individual search field type thing on a separate form or switchboard type thing. Any nifty ideas would be greatly appreciated. thanks

What you could do is setup a combo box on the Main form that queries the required subform field and also returns the primary key of the Main forms source, then use DoCmd.ApplyFilter (or change the record source of the Main form) to filter on the Main form. This will return the particular Main source record with the associated subform records, one of which will be the one you selected from the combo box.
It's not elegant but it should work.

    Pat,
I assume you're talking about a combobox with a rowsource the same as the unfiltered rowsource for the subform, right?
