    Networking (Access 97)

    That's one of the reasons most of us recommend splitting the database into two databases, one that contains only tables (the backend database or BE) and one that contains the forms, queries, reports, macros and modules (the frontend or FE database). You link the tables from the BE to the FE and then you put the BE on the network and a copy of the FE on each of the workstations. Actually even the way you have it now should run as long as the users are not opening it exclusive and they have read/write/create/delete permissions on the network folder. From the sounds of it, that latter is not true, but it has to be in order for more than one person at a time to open the database because of the way Jet handles the ldb file it creates on the server.

    Open the form in design view.
    Have a look at the RecordLocking property (it's the last property in the Data tab of the Properties window).
    If this property is set to All records, all tables involved in the record source of the form will be locked. It's best to set RecordLocking to None, or if you don't like that, to the record being edited.
