Moving Text out of a Text Field? (Word 2000)

I am editing a form in Word 2000. I am trying to move/copy text out of a text field and move it to the workspace. When I try to copy the text in the field, it copies the field as well. Does this make sense and can anyone help me?

    Thanks

    I'm sorry, I don't understand.

    (1) Is this about formfields in a document (the ones you can create with the Forms toolbar), or about ActiveX controls in a document (the ones you can create with the Controls Toolbox), or about controls on a User Form (the ones you create in the Visual Basic Editor)?
    (2) What is the "workspace"?

I am sorry for not providing more detail.

I am referring to the formfield that are created with the forms toolbar.
What I mean by the workspace, is the space white space where text would normally go in a document.

    Thanks

Can you achieve what you want by using Edit > Paste Special > Unformatted Text

Form fields only work properly when the section they are in has been protected for forms (Tools/Protect Document..., click the Forms radio button; click Sections to uncheck any sections that shouldn't be protected).

When the appropriate section has been protected, it's not possible to copy the form fields as a whole, but it *is* possible to copy and paste text in and out of them, but only to other form fields and to unprotected sections.

When the appropriate section has *not* been protected, you're in "design mode" and you can move the form fields around.
