    View file extensions continuousy

Woody gave a way to do this. I thought he said go to Tools, click on compatibility, or etc., ---I tried all of them! --- but couldn't find the choice that would make document extensions show by default. This protects e-mail as well as being, for me a convenience factor. thanks.

I do this in Windows explorer, by going to the VIEW menu, then choosing Options, then setting the appropriate choice that talks about hiding file name extensions. It's in a slightly different place in Windows 98 compared to 95. You'll find it in TOOLS | Options in Windows 2000.

    Hi Jerome,

I believe this setting can be changed in Windows Explorer (I have Windows 2000 but it probably works the same in other versions):
    Go to Tools>Folder Options.
    Click on the View tab.
Under Advanced Settings you will see a checkable box next to "Hide file extensions for known file types".
Most likely you've currently got a checkmark there.
Turn off the checkmark and click OK.
