Reg Cleaner

I copied the following from somewhere and now I can't find out where. I searched the Software Finds forum. Has anyone heard of Reg Cleaner (not Microsoft RegClean) by Jouni Vuorio available at http://www.jv16.org/.

I haven't used it so I'm not recommending it. I'm just trying to find out where I heard about it.

Yep. Heard about it here.

Have downloaded it and reviewed links. Looks good. One warning, the developer has the habit of posting updates *very* frequently. The reviewer comments, however, indicate that it has been stable for the last while.

Test Results (V4.1.0.755):
The version with an installer does create a new directory. When you run for the first time you can use Options|RegCleaner|Install shortcuts to create either a desktop or start menu shortcut.

Very powerful and useful interface. Definitely make sure you have a good backup before using it, though it does include an integrated backup/recovery feature.

Looks like a keeper.

If you really want to know where RegCleaner is being talked about, then try http://beta.profusion.com and search for "regcleaner". Might jog your memory.

Whe I was checking this out, I found that the author once released 3 builds in 24 hours. The major sites are now holding back on his updates, except for the direct linked ones.

Hi Ian:

I thought I heard about Reg Cleaner here, but I can't find the thread. Maybe I went to someone's web site, like Mel's, & copied some information from it. I remember reading that the author sometimes updates his apps 2-3 times a week.

MerC's Law #233 : Given MS Office, even a troupe of monkeys could write software.
Corollary : just because an author is waste of space in the physical universe, doesn't mean his program is.

He's just out to give webmasters a hard time...

Re: Reg Cleaner

Hi Phil
You found it in the Langa list of 25-01-2001 which you just referenced in the PukaPuka post in another thread. The reference to Reg Cleaner is at: http://www.langa.com/newsletters/2001/2001-01-25.htm#2 - this has been bugging me too since I had found it and downloaded it as a result of something written here in the lounge as well.

regards

Aaargh.
I am going to k*ll you and Phil. Just what I didn't need, another great site and newsletter.

Followed your link over to langa, and 3 hours later.[sigh]

Oh well, several really good tips and references.

Re: Reg Cleaner & Langa

Ian,

Glad (no pun intended) I could be of service, although Phil's the real culprit and deserves the credit for recommending that site - he's mentioned the langa list a number of times in other threads - I'm surprised you haven't followed up on it before this! It really is a great one.

Re: Reg Cleaner & Langa

I receive about 5-10 newsletters a day. If I subscribe to too many more I won't have time to do anything except read them.

As for the Langa site, I probably did not go to it before because I receive a lot of ZiffDavis and Microsoft and neither of them tend to reference outside their domains.

The search on the Langa site is very well done. I will definitely be back there.

Re: Reg Cleaner

Now at build 758.

NOTE: The developer intends to freeze this release for some time. Probably worth updating.

Isn't that the truth! Between the different Woodys stuff, Fred Langa, Neat Net Tricks, Karens Power Tools and my InfoSecurity stuff, I don't have time to read all the quality spam I get each day. I believe it's refered to as information overload.

Gee, maybe we could each read one newsletter & then post summaries. Nah, we'd have endless debates on how to summarize.
