    Run Away Windows (IE 6)

I have a user who when he is running IE, multiple windows start popping up. There is no rhyme nor reason to the windows that open up or to the amount of windows that are generated. The only way to stop the windows is to end task or sometimes reboot the machine. We have run Norton Corporate Virus Scan on the machine and did find and quarantine a Start Page Virus, but the windows keep on coming. This does not happen when using Netscape. It seems that I remember a virus that did something like this but it was some time ago. I can not find anything on the net or at Microsoft relating to this problem.

Thanks in advance for any information, suggestions, guidance.

There is a virus that will reset the home page every time a reboot is done. This home page will then just start loading the script to open all of these different windows. I can not find any link at this time.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

This is a Trojan. http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcen....startpage.html. If all the directions were followed, then the Trojan should have been removed successfully.

Thanks to the both of you, and Mr. Google, for the information. The user says that he is still getting these runaway windows after having identified and isolated the Start Page virus. We will have another look at his machine.

What OS is this person using? I was wondering if SystemRestore was being used or something along that route.
If it is still there, then perhaps backing up all important data, and then doing a clean install of the OS should end the trojan/virii.
Hopefully one of the other more knowledgeable members will come up with other suggestions.
    Let us know what happens. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

Has he gone in and changed the "Home Page" of IE? If this has not been done then, the script will just start up every time.
