    Dial-Up Connections won't remember password

    w2k-sp1
This seems to be a w2k problem. Some others have complained about it, too. Any work arounds would be appreciated!
    Thanks.

Re: Dial-Up Connections won't remember password

This cobbled together, illogical, don't know which bits of it are necessary solution worked for me.

    1) Delete connection in question.
    2) Reboot.
    3) Recreate connection, adding username and password and asking it to remember password in wizard.
    4) Before connecting, select properties and add client for microsoft networks.
    5) Connect.
    6) Reboot.

As I said, probably only one or two of these steps are necessary, but which ones is anyone's guess.

    running win2k, sp1 with IE5.01 SP1.

Sorry, forgot step 7 - go back to properties and remove client for microsoft networks (I found that I was getting more DNS errors before I did this).

The step that is necessary is the Vlient for Microsoft Networks. You may well end up having to noodle around with the other steps, but the client portion is what enables Windows to retain your passwords.

Unless prompted, you shoud not have to reboot in 2000. You can stop and start the network services (thanks to Redmond for that giant leap forward).

Are you on a stand alone or on a networked computer?

If networked the IS admin may have this function turned off, and can NOT be used.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.
